
Sandino joined the resistance, saying "I don't sell myself or give up. I want a free country or dead". He started the movement with only 29 men and 40 guns against the U.S. soldiers and the conservative nicaraguan party. Little by little, his army grew and he had over 6,000 men.
In January, 1933, the U.S. army decided to leave Nicaragua. In 1934, he was betrayed and killed, by orders from the US embassy.
